Roughly between 2007 and 2012 edited, co-wrote and produced the bimonthly newsletter “Urban Grown” for the Kansas City Center for Urban Agriculture (later Cultivate Kansas City). It was an opportunity for us to tell the story of Kansas City urban agriculture but also to discover inspiring urban ag projects around the world and invite their creators to present them to our growing number of readers. The newsletter was created with simple design and publishing tools and definitely looks dated by today’s standard but even that aspect of it seemed to parallel the entire urban agriculture movement’s natural focus on creating new systems and paradigms with simple and open-source technologies.
