Carrot (Kansas) City

In 2005 I co-founded a small nonprofit we called the Kansas City Center for Urban Agriculture. It was later renamed Cultivate Kansas City. During the eight years I was part of it, the organization operated an intensive market garden, a refugee training farm and a food forest and provided technical assistance and policy support to the Kansas City urban agriculture community. As an organic farmer, urban planner and journalist, I found a lot of wonderful projects and opportunities to grow in this role and in this organization.

On this page I’d like to share a few moments and memories from that period of my life:

  • A few radio broadcasts from the early years of Kansas City’s urban agriculture movement.

  • The 34-page program (PDF) of the Urban Farms and Gardens Tour 2009 hosted by the Kansas City Center for Urban Agriculture. This was such an amazing event which brought together many stakeholders and visionaries!

  • A few issues of Urban Grown, the organization’s newsletter I edited at the time.
